Our Story

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, or ISKCON, is an incorporated religion and legal charitable non-profit institution since 1966. By disseminating the transcendental message of Bhagavad-Gita As It Is, training members and distribution of vegetarian food we help people to achieve the aim of human life. We are dedicated to the following principles: To help all people to discern spirit from matter,or reality from illusion, To expose the faults of materialism, To offer guidance in techniques of spiritual practice, To preserve spiritual culture, To celebrate the chanting of the names of God, To help every living being to serve Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead

Whatever you are able to give.

Free Feast

The preparation and distribution of food is an integral activity of the Hare Krishna Movement. A donation to the Festival of the Chariots Free Feast guarantees many thousands will receive a free vegetarian meal, sanctified as a loving offering to God, or Krishna.

Srila Prabhupada’s Books

At every festival there is liberal distribution of Krishna’s message in the form of time honored scriptures translated and explained by founder/author Srila Prabhupada. Your donation here insures the distribution of these transcendental literatures.

The Holy Name

As part of an ancient tradition of spiritual mysticism with roots in India, the Krishna Consciousness movement is centered around the devotional process of chanting the sacred names of God as given in the ancient scriptures known as the Vedas. The Vedas teach that in this present age, the most powerful form of self realization comes about by the practice of concentrated prayer upon the personal names of the one Surpreme Lord.

The names Hare, Krishna, and Rama, are especially powerful names whose effect can be immediately felt upon chanting with love, devotion and attention. These three names combine to form the “Hare Krishna Maha Mantra”:

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare

Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama, Rama, Hare, Hare

Chanting this sacred mantra, while teaching others to chant this mantra, is the center of our spiritual practice. For this reason we are known generally as “Hare Krishna’s” or “Krishna’s”.

Deity Cart Seva

The Deity Seva Cart you see at the festival is an extension of the altar in the West Los Angeles Hare Krishna temple. The presiding Deities are Lord Jagannatha, His brother, Baladeva, and sister Subhadra. They have left the temple to come out and meet our guests (namely, you!) and offer them the chance to participate in Their elaborate celebration procession. Your donation here helps to maintain this traditional, authentic worship of Jagannatha, “the Lord of the Universe.”
